Jeff Hanson

Jeff Hanson

Jeff Hanson serves as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of American Healthcare REIT, Inc. (NYSE: AHR), one of the largest publicly traded healthcare real estate investment trusts in the United States. The company owns and operates an integrated senior housing platform alongside a portfolio of health system–aligned outpatient medical properties spanning more than 30 states.

Hanson co-founded American Healthcare Investors (AHI), a privately held healthcare real estate investment firm that sponsored and externally managed several publicly registered, nontraded REITs, including Griffin-American Healthcare REIT II, Griffin-American Healthcare REIT III, and Griffin-American Healthcare REIT IV.

American Healthcare REIT was formed through the merger of REIT III and REIT IV and the subsequent acquisition of AHI by the combined entity, internalizing management and consolidating the sponsored REIT platform into a single scaled enterprise. The company debuted on the New York Stock Exchange in February 2024 and today operates as the publicly traded operator-platform for senior housing — built to give leading operators the capital, proprietary technology, and institutional resources to grow further than they could on their own. Trilogy Management Services, the operator behind AHR’s Integrated Senior Health Campuses segment, is the proof of concept and the model for every AHR operator relationship.

Previously, Hanson served as chairman and chief executive officer of Griffin-American Healthcare REIT II, which assembled a diversified international healthcare real estate portfolio. In December 2014, that portfolio was sold to NorthStar Realty Finance Corp. (NYSE: NRF) in a transaction valued at approximately $4 billion.

Earlier in his career, Hanson was one of five executive officers of Grubb & Ellis Company (NYSE: GBE), where he served as chief executive officer of Grubb & Ellis Equity Advisors and as chairman and chief executive officer of Grubb & Ellis Healthcare REIT II. From 2006 through 2011, he led this national investment management platform of more than 600 professionals overseeing $8 billion in assets across public nontraded REITs, institutional joint ventures, separate accounts, and private real estate syndications. In 2011, American Healthcare Investors was formed to acquire and continue the firm’s healthcare real estate investment platform.

Hanson has more than three decades of experience in healthcare real estate investment, capital markets, platform development, and board governance. His career has focused on building scalable enterprises and, at AHR, on positioning the company as the preferred capital partner for the best senior housing operators in America — pairing capital with the proprietary technology, data analytics, and hands-on asset management of a large-cap NYSE-listed platform.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a dual emphasis in corporate finance and real estate finance from the University of Southern California.
